What causes breakouts? Common culprits include oil build-up, stress, hormones and diet. But as our customer Ana discovered, with the right skincare regime, you can control oil and get blemishes under control.
Ana is a 16-year-old ballet dancer in Brisbane studying at the Queensland Ballet Academy. She suffers from oil build-up and acne, which has affected her confidence for years. “I experience constant breakouts, which turn into acne scarring,” says Ana.
As an aspiring professional dancer, Ana has a very busy schedule for a young person. From 7:30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, she’s either studying, training or rehearsing.
Although Ana loves ballet, the academy can be a high-pressure environment. Ana believes stress contributes to her breakouts, as well as hormonal changes. Constantly sweating while dancing in Brisbane’s humidity doesn't help oil build-up either.
Trying Zivany for acne control
Ana has used popular skincare brands to minimise oil build-up in the past, but she wanted to try something else to see if it would improve her acne. It was Ana’s mum Monica who thought a more natural approach would be worth a try.

Ana’s blemish control routine
1. Controlling oiliness with cleanser
All skin requires daily cleansing, but for oily skin, you want a cleanser with blemish-fighting ingredients, such as White Willow Bark, Organic Papaya and Pineapple. These ingredients naturally exfoliate and cleanse oil secretion, while Juniper Berry and Lime Essential Oils act as a natural antibacterial agent, fighting against surface bacteria.
2. Fighting blemishes with Blemish Clear
Blemish Clear is a gel used to target sites of breakouts. The Australian Tea Tree and Lemon Myrtle kills surface bacteria on your skin, cleans out pores, and prevents further breakouts from occurring.
3. Soothing with Probiotic Lotion
Think you have to avoid moisturiser if you have oily skin? The truth is, moisturiser is an important skincare step, regardless of skin type. If you dry out your skin with too much cleansing and no moisturiser, your skin will produce more oil to balances it out.
A light lotion with a probiotic such as Lactobacillus is perfect for Ana. It delivers healthy bacteria and cleans up the congestion that causes bad bacteria. It also includes Geranium and Cucumber which soothes scarring and promotes healing.
Clean, radiant and healthy
After a couple of weeks of following this regime, Ana saw the difference.
“I still have some breakouts, but the Blemish Clear has helped me a lot. It prevents new breakouts and stops scars getting bigger and darker,” says Ana. “My skin looks and feels softer, brighter and more radiant.”
